PSE Index Up In Volatile Trade

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today posted a slight gain of 0.01 percent or 0.87 points to 5,988.59 points after a volatile run that saw it go beyond a milestone level at 6,033.43 points and a low of 5,949.81 points.

Four of the sub-indices were up while two were down, holding firms and property which closed 0.61 percent and 0.82 percent lower respectively. Services rose by 1.30 percent, Financials by 0.98 percent, industrials by 0.23 percent, and mining and oil by 0.74 percent.


Port operator ICTSI emerged as the most active stock with a P6.10 gain to P171.10 on trades of P535 million while Eagle Cement posted the biggest gain of P20.52 percent on a disclosure by San Miguel that it is buying the cement firm at a higher price than its latest market quote.



Eagle also barged into the Top 20 active stocks as a result as it closed P3.16 higher at P18.56.


Trading remained muted though with the absence of foreign investors as the US Fed signal led to higher interest rate rises to arrest the inflationary spike. Value turnover amounted to P4.822 billion with 105 gainers, 82 losers, and 46 shares unchanged, including Semirara Mining, which closed at P40.

San Miguel was the second most active with P406 million in trades as it gained P2.35 to P99. Jollibee Foods went down by P2 to P28, while Ayala Land and SM Prime both posted losses of 25 centavos to P23.80 and P31.75.


Converge continued its slide, dropping to P12, down by P1.04 while market bellwether SM Investments went down by P9 to P785.

ACEN Corp rose for the second day to P5.90, up by 10 centavos while Metrobank was up by 55 centavos to P50.95.


Bank of PI lost 8o centavos to P91.10. DMCI Holdings was down by 14 centavos to P10.20 while Security Bank was up P2 to P84, as BDO Unibank also went up by P2.90 to P115.90. Meralco gained P8.20 to P28.40 while Ayala Corp lost P9 to P636, and Universal Robina was down by P3.90 to P112.10.
