PSE Index Up in Volatile Trade

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index closed slightly higher on Friday after a roller-coaster session, ending at 6,390.91 points, up by 8.87 points or 0.14 percent.

Heavier valuations for holding firms, which rose 0.32 percent, along with a 0.79 percent gain in financials, helped lift the index.


This offset declines in other sectors, with industrials down 0.31 percent, services lower by 0.25 percent, mining and oil falling 1.52 percent, and property shedding 0.36 percent.


Wide swings in blue-chip prices saw the index hit an intraday high of 6,400.90 points and a low of 6,357.86 points.



San Miguel closed 0.39 percent higher at P76.90 after trading between a high of P77.70 and a low of P76.60. GT Capital declined 1.99 percent to P640, despite reaching an intraday high of P653.50 and a low of P632.50.


Market bellwether SM Investments ended unchanged at P700.



In the mining sector, Apex Mining rose 1.77 percent to P13.80, while OceanaGold gained 0.86 percent to P35.00. However, Philex Mining, Nickel Asia, and Atlas Mining posted sharper declines of 1.93 percent to P10.18, 5.15 percent to P4.60, and 2.62 percent to P9.30, respectively.


Value turnover reached P6.24 billion, while foreign trades amounted to P6.21 billion, resulting in net foreign buying of P553 million.


There were 80 gainers, 122 losers, and 62 unchanged stocks, including ACEN Corp., Cebu Landmasters, PSE, Filinvest Land, SM Prime, DoubleDragon, DITO CME, and VistaREIT.



Among the gainers were ICTSI, BDO Unibank, Puregold, Ayala Corp., Bank of the Philippine Islands, Citicore RE, Dominion Holdings, and Monde Nissin. Decliners included Converge, PLDT, Globe Telecom, Aboitiz Power, Ayala Land, Jollibee Foods, Union Bank, Universal Robina, Vista Land, and VistaREIT.
