PSE Index Up Just a Tad Higher

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index rose slightly on the day, as the usual sell-down followed an intraday high. The benchmark index closed at 6,079.02 points, up 23.34 points or 0.39%.

Investors came in strong during the opening minutes, pushing the index to 6,104.75 points by the market recess.
It later added another 32 points to reach an intraday high of 6,111.95, before succumbing to a selling spree that dragged the index to an intraday low of 6,065.57.
Renewed foreign selling again marked the market’s performance.
The sell-down saw Aboitiz Power drop 1.47% to ₱43.70, Aboitiz Equity Ventures slip 0.75% to ₱43.70, UnionBank lose 0.94% to ₱26.40, Jollibee Foods decline 0.90% to ₱187.30, and Globe Telecom and PLDT slump 0.70% to ₱1,563 and 0.69% to ₱1,272, respectively.
Also down were DigiPlus, which retreated by a hefty 4.10% to ₱15.90, and Bloomberry, down 1.12% to ₱2.64.
Only the property sub-index posted a loss, falling 1.30%, as Ayala Land slipped 0.22% and SM Prime slumped 2.94% to ₱23.10. Financials rose 0.26%, industrials gained 0.34%, holding firms advanced 0.58%, services climbed 1.00%, and mining and oil surged 0.58%.
ICTSI was the most active stock, with trades worth ₱1.288 billion, as it rose 1.76% to ₱577. Market bellwether SM Investments climbed 0.71% to ₱705.
Key gainers included ACEN Corp., which closed 2.12% higher at ₱2.89, and Meralco, up 2.05% to ₱597. Apex led the miners with a 5.49% gain to ₱11.92, while Converge rose 2.40% to ₱15.36.
Value turnover reached ₱5.98 billion. Foreign trades totaled ₱6.8 billion, with foreign buying at ₱6.08 billion and selling at ₱6.78 billion, resulting in net foreign selling of ₱705 million.
There were 97 gainers, 88 losers, and 59 unchanged stocks, including SPNEC, Alternergy, Puregold, Nickel Asia, Topline, ABS-CBN, Filinvest REIT, and Haus Talk.
Among the gainers were Metrobank, Max’s, China Bank, PNB, National Reinsurance, Universal Robina, JG Summit, and Axelum. Losers included Basic Energy, Robinsons Land, Synergy Grid, GT Capital, VistaREIT, GMA Network, Philex Mining, and OceanaGold.
