PSE Index Up Slightly

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index rose slightly on Thursday to 5,835.59 points, up by 17.53 points or 0.30 percent, with only the industrial sub-index posting a loss.

The industrial index declined by 0.16 percent as Universal Robina gained 0.94 percent to ₱74.84, cushioning the losses from Aboitiz Power, down 0.75 percent to ₱39.50; Meralco, lower by 2.03 percent to ₱555.00; and Monde Nissin, which slid 2.54 percent to ₱6.14.


Mining and oil recorded the biggest gain of 4.46 percent, with Apex Mining up 3.43 percent to ₱9.05, Philex Mining rising 2.17 percent to ₱7.55, and OceanaGold surging 10.88 percent to ₱27.00.

Financials climbed 1.03 percent, holding firms rose 0.29 percent, services gained 0.15 percent, and property added 0.16 percent.


ICTSI emerged as the most active stock with ₱746 million in trades, rising 0.38 percent to ₱525.00. Market bellwether SM Investments slid 1.04 percent to ₱714.50 after a volatile run from a high of ₱724.00 to a low of ₱712.50.

BDO Unibank and Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) rose 1.67 percent to ₱134.20 and 1.46 percent to ₱104.00, respectively, while Digiplus fell 1.63 percent to ₱24.20, and Jollibee Foods retreated 1.14 percent to ₱199.70.


Value turnover amounted to ₱5.423 billion, with net foreign buying of ₱211 million on foreign buying of ₱2.960 billion, and foreign selling of ₱2.748 billion.


There were 98 gainers, 68 losers, and 72 unchanged issues, including Metrobank, Haus Talk, SPNEC, Semirara Mining, Cosco Capital, and DMCI Holdings.

Among the gainers were Ayala Corp, Century Pacific Food, Topline, ACEN Corp, Megawide, Security Bank, First Gen, Nickel Asia, Ginebra, JG Summit, GT Capital, Alliance Global, and San Miguel.


Among the losers were SM Prime, China Bank, Emperador, Vitarich, Vista Land, Figaro Coffee, Alternergy, Integrated Micro, VistaREIT, Basic Energy, Globe Telecom, and PLDT.
