PSE Index Up Slightly in Volatile Trade

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index inched up slightly today to 5,726.99 points, rising 12.97 points or 0.23 percent in volatile trading that saw it see-saw between gains and losses as foreign investors again remained net sellers.

The index hit an intraday low of 5,690.69 points and a high of 5,768.91 points, before closing with losses in financials (down 1.13 percent) and holding firms (down 1.11 percent).
These were offset by gains in industrial (up 0.61 percent), services (up 2.18 percent), mining and oil (up 1.62 percent), and property (up 1.03 percent).
Market bellwether SM Investments softened, slipping below the ₱700 price range as it declined 1.57 percent to ₱690.00.
Other conglomerates that retreated included Aboitiz Equity Ventures, which dropped 6.20 percent to ₱24.20; Ayala Corp., down 0.05 percent to ₱420.80; and JG Summit, lower by 1.41 percent to ₱21.00.
The day’s bright spots included Maynilad, which rose 2.84 percent to ₱14.50, and top-traded ICTSI, which posted ₱1.11 billion in trades and edged up 1.09 percent to ₱558.50.
Telco stocks also advanced, with Globe Telecom up 9.79 percent to ₱1,648.00, PLDT gaining 4.75 percent to ₱1,278.00, and Converge rising 1.92 percent to ₱12.76.
Value turnover amounted to ₱6.49 billion, with foreign trades at ₱6 billion. Net foreign selling stood at ₱409 million, based on ₱2.84 billion in foreign buying and ₱3.25 billion in foreign selling.
There were 95 gainers, 82 losers, and 51 unchanged issues.
Among the gainers were DigiPlus, Meralco, Ayala Land, Puregold, Topline, SPNEC, Apex Mining, OceanaGold, Philex Mining, San Miguel, Cebu Air, Axelum, Robinsons Land, and Philodrill.
Among the losers were Aboitiz Power, Security Bank, SM Prime, BDO Unibank, Metrobank, Jollibee Foods, Universal Robina, Emperador, Ginebra San Miguel, Megawide, DITO CME, Belle Corp., Bloomberry, Wilcon Depot, and ACEN Corp.
Those that remained steady included Union Bank, Century Properties, Megaworld, AgriNurture, PSE, Filinvest REIT, and ABS-CBN.
