REDC will grant scholarships to four Dumagat students for their tertiary education at Northern Quezon College Inc. in Infanta, Quezon, and Calamba Doctors College in Laguna.
The scholars will pursue degrees in Business Administration, Nursing, and Elementary Education.
REDC President and CEO Eric Peter Y. Roxas emphasized the importance of education in improving quality of life, stating, “Education is one of the key elements to attain a better quality of life, and we are committed to doing our part to ensure no Filipino will be left behind. By helping students get a college degree, we are providing them a ladder towards a fruitful professional career for themselves and their loved ones.”
Additionally, REDC handed over PHP241,122.65 to the Dumagat tribe elders, representing their share from the operations of one of REDC's hydropower plants.
This is part of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between REDC and the Dumagat tribe, facilitated by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP). The MOA stipulates that the Dumagat tribe will receive a percentage of the power generated from REDC's run-of-the-river hydropower plants in Quezon Province.
Roxas underscored, “Having the Dumagat tribe financially benefit from our operations will allow them to have additional financial resources to address the needs of their communities.”
He added that the tribe would receive a larger percentage from the operations of REDC's three power plants in Quezon next year, reinforcing the company's long-term commitment to the tribe's welfare.
