Consortium Brand Partners has purchased a 70% stake in the company for an undisclosed amount, while Witherspoon will retain her position as a partner and board member in the business.
The Oscar-winning actress, producer, and entrepreneur launched the retail brand in 2015, drawing inspiration from her Southern roots.
Draper James originally operated as a direct-to-consumer business, offering clothing in vibrant colors, bold prints, accessories, and home items.
As the business expanded, the brand established three retail locations and entered into an exclusive partnership with Kohl's nationwide and kohls.com in 2022. Consortium Brand Partners has stated that Draper James products will continue to be available online through the company's website, at its three retail stores, and at Kohl's.
Additionally, the private equity group plans to expand the presence of Draper James merchandise into larger retail spaces, including home improvement stores, department stores, and pet store chains.
