MSpectrum, Inc.—the renewable energy arm of Meralco—has announced the expansion of its collaboration with Southeast Asia Retail Inc., the operator of Landers Superstore, through the installation of two new solar rooftop projects in Cebu and Fairview.

This partnership signals a deepening commitment between two innovative companies seeking to balance commercial growth with environmental responsibility.

It also marks another milestone for MSpectrum, a key player in the country’s renewable energy sector, and Landers, one of the country’s most digitally advanced and customer-centric retail chains.

Solar Solutions at Scale

The expansion involves a 600-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar rooftop system for Landers Cebu, expected to produce approximately 960,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy annually.

This will reduce the store’s carbon emissions by an estimated 683.71 metric tons—equivalent to planting over 31,000 trees or cutting more than 2.72 million kilometers of vehicular travel each year.

Simultaneously, a 930-kWp system will be installed at Landers Fairview, projected to generate 1.19 million kWh of clean energy annually and reduce 845.95 metric tons in emissions—comparable to planting around 38,000 trees or reducing 3.37 million kilometers in vehicle travel.

“We’re proud to partner with MSpectrum as we take meaningful steps toward becoming more environmentally responsible,” said Pieter Dhoni Lukman, Chief Operating Officer of Southeast Asia Retail Inc.

“This solar initiative is not just about reducing operational costs—it’s about taking an active role in the country’s broader clean energy movement.”

A Shared Commitment to a Greener Future

The latest solar projects are part of a broader collaboration that began last year between MSpectrum and Landers.

MSpectrum President and CEO Ma. Cecilia M. Domingo emphasized the long-term value of the partnership, saying, “These installations will significantly help reduce carbon emissions, optimize energy consumption, and generate cost savings that can be reinvested into enhancing customer experiences and operational efficiency.”

Backed by Meralco’s expertise, MSpectrum has built a reputation as a trusted partner for businesses seeking to transition to clean energy.

With over 80 megawatts of rooftop solar capacity installed across the Philippines, the company’s success rests on delivering tailored energy solutions that drive impact both economically and ecologically.

Tech-Powered Retail, Now with Renewable Energy

The adoption of solar power further complements Landers Superstore’s forward-thinking operations.

Since opening its first branch in 2016, the membership-based retail chain has grown to 13 locations as of mid-2024, integrating cloud infrastructure, AI-powered CRM systems, and omnichannel e-commerce platforms into its operations.

With a mobile app that personalizes shopping and a data-driven backend that enables real-time inventory and membership insights, Landers has positioned itself at the intersection of customer convenience and digital transformation.

The addition of solar rooftops bolsters this image, adding a sustainability pillar to its already tech-enabled foundation.

Sustainability That Scales

For both MSpectrum and Landers, the expanded partnership is more than just a business transaction—it’s a shared vision for scalable sustainability.

“Our commitment goes beyond offering quality products from around the world,” Lukman added.

“It’s also about creating value for future generations through cleaner energy choices.”

As the Philippines intensifies its push for renewable energy adoption amid rising power demands and climate-related challenges, partnerships like this one between MSpectrum and Landers set a powerful example.

By integrating solar energy into large-scale retail operations, these companies are not only reducing their environmental footprint—they are also redefining what it means to be future-ready.
