Rightists Demand Removal Of ADL From X

A hashtag campaign pushed by right-wing US ideologues, rife with antisemitic content, is trending on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, and has garnered support from owner Elon Musk, as reported by Miles Klee for Rolling Stone.

This marks a new low for a platform that has seemingly abandoned the fight against hate speech. On Thursday, accounts began tweeting #BanTheADL, urging Musk to remove the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) from the site.

Momentum for this action appears to have been stirred by a recent meeting between the ADL’s national director, Jonathan Greenblatt, and Linda Yaccarino, where they discussed ways to combat hate and toxic propaganda that have flourished on X since Musk’s takeover last year.

In a report for the Israeli daily Haaretz on September 3, 2023, Ben Samuels highlighted a 72-hour social media storm of antisemitic conspiracy theories and attacks on the ADL.

This has raised concerns about Elon Musk's platforming of hate speech under the guise of free speech.

Musk has specifically targeted Greenblatt after the latter questioned why Donald Trump’s Twitter account was reinstated. Musk also voiced complaints about discrimination against whites in South Africa, his country of birth.
