Role Of Media In Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Cited

During the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) Forum 2023, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista highlighted the crucial role of the media in informing the public about the benefits of the Department of Transportation's (DOTr) infrastructure projects, especially the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

Secretary Bautista emphasized that these projects are expected to disrupt the status quo in the transport sector and bring about transformational change.

The DOTr aims to expedite project completion to reduce issues like traffic, long waiting times, smoke-belching jeepneys, and flight cancellations. These projects also stimulate the local economy and create job opportunities in affected communities.

Projects such as modernizing airports, constructing new ones, expanding regional airports, and improving railways are underway.

Sustainable road transport projects, including bike lanes and Bus Rapid Transits, are part of the plan. The DOTr is also pushing for the modernization of public utility vehicles and promoting active transport through walking, like the EDSA Greenways Project.
