The beef market in China has been booming with a 20-fold increase from last year. The industry department of the agricultural bank reported that 3,700 tons were bought up by Chinese distributors during Q1: 2021.

A Russia Today (RT) report shows that the country’s exports of cattle meat have increased over the last three months. China now receives 55% of all Russian beef, nearly two and a half times more than it did in 2020. In total, Russia has sent about 6 thousand tons abroad since January 1st with 2/3 going to Chinese markets.

Russian beef has become a hot commodity in China, and experts foresee the trend continuing for at least five more years. The CIE explains this growth as an effect of Russia's low base price combined with its competitive prices that make it popular among Chinese consumers.

With China experiencing African swine fever throughout 2018-2019 which disrupted their meat production industry, they have increased imports from abroad including Russian beef to compensate.
