Salame pleaded guilty in September last year to violating political campaign finance laws and operating an illegal money-transmitting business.
US Attorney Damian Williams stated, "Salame's involvement in two serious federal crimes undermined public trust in American elections and the integrity of the financial system."
This follows the 25-year prison sentence given to FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried for stealing $8 billion from FTX customers. Salame was found guilty of seven fraud and conspiracy counts related to FTX's failure, which prosecutors have called one of the biggest financial frauds in US history.
