Shein is acquiring sustainable clothing retailer Everlane, according to a letter from Everlane CEO Alfred Chang obtained by The Associated Press (AP).

Founded in 2011 by Michael Preysman and Jesse Farmer, Everlane built its reputation on affordable, ethically sourced, and environmentally conscious clothing. The company emphasized transparency in supply chains and workplace audits.
In recent years, however, Everlane has faced operational and labor-related challenges, while navigating a difficult retail environment.
Chang said the acquisition would provide Everlane with financial stability and resources to expand without compromising product quality or standards.
The deal marks an unexpected pairing, given Shein’s identity as a fast-fashion giant frequently criticized over sustainability and labor concerns, compared with Everlane’s eco-conscious branding.
