SK Hynix has announced that it has shipped samples of its latest high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips to major customers as it seeks to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing artificial intelligence semiconductor market, Joyce Lee reported for Reuters.

The company's next-generation 12-layer HBM4E chip delivers speeds of up to 16 gigabits per second per pin and offers more than 20 percent greater power efficiency than previous models.
HBM chips are critical components in artificial intelligence systems because they enable processors to handle the enormous volumes of data required to train and operate AI models.
The technology is widely used alongside processors produced by companies such as Nvidia. SK Hynix remains Nvidia's leading supplier of HBM chips, while rivals Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology continue to compete for market share.
The announcement underscores the growing importance of advanced memory technologies as demand for AI infrastructure accelerates worldwide.
