South Korean regulators have imposed a record fine on e-commerce giant Coupang following a large-scale data breach that reportedly exposed information belonging to more than 30 million customers.

The Personal Information Protection Commission said the breach compromised customer names, contact information, delivery details, and purchase histories.
Regulators announced a total penalty exceeding 423 billion won, along with additional sanctions tied to the alleged non-consensual collection of user information.
Coupang said it regretted the incident and pledged to strengthen security systems, though the company indicated it intends to challenge the ruling.
The breach reportedly affected more than half of South Korea’s population, underscoring growing concerns over digital privacy and cybersecurity risks.
