Spotify: 30-Second Trick Won't Enrich Users

The head of Spotify has refuted claims suggesting that users can accumulate monthly royalties by repeatedly listening to their own uploaded 30-second track, as reported by Ruth Comerford for BBC News.

Financial analysts had suggested that Spotify subscribers could earn $1,200 (£960) a month by playing their song on repeat, 24 hours a day.

Financial analysts at JP Morgan had suggested that Spotify subscribers could earn $1,200 (£960) a month by playing their song on repeat, 24 hours a day, implying that Spotify's royalty payment system could be manipulated.

However, Daniel Ek, the CEO of the streaming giant, clarified that this is not how the platform's royalties function.

This theory was initially reported in the Financial Times and later tweeted about by Julian Klymochko, founder of Accelerate, a Canadian-based investment company.

In response, Ek tweeted, "If that were true, my own playlist would just be 'Daniel's 30-second Jam' on repeat!"

He added, "But seriously, that's not quite how our royalty system works." According to the Financial Times, JP Morgan executives estimated that up to 10% of all streams could be fraudulent.
