Stellantis To Kill Chrome On Its Cars, Vans

Stellantis, the automaker behind brands like Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, and Maserati, plans to eliminate chrome from its new models due to environmental and health concerns, Peter Valdes-Dapena reported for CNN.

Chrome has long been used to add an upscale look to cars and protect metal parts from corrosion.
However, the process involves hexavalent chromium, or "chromium 6," a highly carcinogenic substance. Government regulators in the US and Europe have identified it as an aggressive cancer-causing agent, with California labeling it 500 times more toxic than diesel exhaust.
Stellantis' initiative, dubbed “Death of Chrome,” aims to address these health concerns by eliminating chrome plating from their vehicles, marking a significant shift in automotive design and environmental responsibility.
