Stocks End Despite Higher Volatile Run

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) went on a volatile run today, rising to a higher level but disintegrating toward the close. Despite the late slump, the index still gained 17.02 points, or 0.27 percent, to close at 6,370.65.

The market bellwether hit a high of ₱24.40 but slumped to ₱8.21 before edging up at the close, still lower by ₱2.50 at ₱8.25.
Similarly, property giants Ayala Land and SM Prime soared to dizzying heights during the day but slipped by the close, with Ayala Land down 2.60 percent and SM Prime down 2.05 percent.
The early rally in shares sent the index as high as 6,412.43, but it was later hit by selling pressure that dragged it down to a low of 6,348.73.
As a result, the sub-indices had a mixed performance. Financials were down by 0.35 percent, holding firms declined by 0.09 percent, and property slipped by 1.16 percent.
On the other hand, services rose, boosted by a 4.57 percent surge in ICTSI to ₱481, up ₱21. ICTSI also emerged as the most actively traded stock with a total value of ₱1.503 billion.
Mining and oil gained 1.68 percent, while industrials advanced by 0.86 percent.
Total trades amounted to ₱6.775 billion, with foreign trades accounting for ₱5.7 billion. Foreign buying reached ₱2.973 billion, while foreign selling amounted to ₱2.761 billion, resulting in net foreign buying of ₱211 million.
There were 93 gainers, 84 losers, and 63 unchanged issues, including Bank of PI, Petron, Vitarich, Cosco Capital, Belle Corp, LT Group, DoubleDragon, and Citicore REIT.
Among the gainers were Ayala Corp., PSE, Aboitiz Power, SSI Group, Converge, Cebu Air, Puregold, Apex Mining, Wilcon Depot, Nickel Asia, SPNEC, Topline, Emperador, GT Capital, JG Summit, Monde Nissin, Meralco, and Manila Water.
Among the losers were BDO Unibank, Citystate Savings, AbaCore, Lodestar, Alternergy, Semirara Mining, Jollibee Foods, San Miguel, PhilWeb, DigiPlus, Globe Telecom, PLDT, and DITO CME.
