GF Casting Solutions, a division of Georg Fischer AG, said it would invest $184 million in the Augusta plant and plans to hire 350 people, reported the Associated Press (AP).
Carlos Vasto, president of GF Casting Solutions, stated the company aims to provide parts to electric vehicle (EV) makers in the US and cited Augusta as an “ideal” location for such a venture.
The plant will cast aluminum parts for structural automotive pieces, aiding vehicles in achieving greater efficiency. GF could qualify for $7 million in state income tax credits, at $4,000 per job over five years, as long as workers make at least $31,300 a year.
Additionally, it will receive property tax breaks worth $20 million over 20 years from Augusta. The state will also fund the training of workers for the company.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp mentioned meeting with Georg Fischer officials during his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January. Production at the plant is scheduled to commence in 2027.
GF Casting Solutions did not disclose the expected salaries for workers. Cal Wray, president of the Development Authority of Augusta, highlighted the city’s development of its industrial park as a factor contributing to its attractiveness as a location.
