At least three people were killed and more than a dozen injured after Taliban militants opened fire during protests against the group in the Afghan city of Jalalabad, two witnesses and a former police official told Reuters.

The witnesses said the deaths took place when local residents tried to install Afghanistan's national flag at a square in the city, some 150 km (90 miles) to the east of Kabul. Taliban spokesmen were not immediately reachable for comment.
Jibran Ahmad and Rupam Jain reported despite the pledge of the Taliban to respect diversity, women’s rights and form a more inclusive government, its fighters have barred female bank clerks from working while Clarissa Ward of CNN showed women have disappeared from the streets.
The Associated Press (AP) also showed Taliban workers splashing paint on women in advertisements and shutting down beauty parlors.
The suppression in Jalalabad may spur more protests nationwide, particularly in many provinces where warlords actually wield political power and have their own militias to battle the Taliban as they did decades ago.
