A WARN notice filed with the Texas Workforce Commission confirmed the September 1 decision, Max Taylor reported for Autoblog.

The layoffs — covering technicians, supervisors, and managers — fell under the “unforeseen business circumstances” exemption, allowing Tesla to sidestep the usual 60-day notice.

The move underscores the volatility at Giga Texas, the company’s largest factory and global headquarters.

The facility produces the Model Y, Cybertruck, and batteries, but is increasingly known for sudden job cuts.

Earlier this year, Tesla laid off nearly 2,700 direct employees at the site as part of a wider restructuring. In another shake-up, it ended its contract with Trigo Quality Solutions, costing 50 inspectors their jobs.

Even as Tesla hypes new milestones — like the Model Y Performance returning after Nürburgring testing — the company’s abrupt cuts are sending a very different message about stability.
