Thai Scientists Breed Coral In Labs To Restore Degraded Reefs

Thai marine biologists are spearheading coral breeding and restoration efforts to revive degraded reefs, particularly in the southern island of Man Nai, Napat Wesshasartar reported for Reuters.

The initiative, launched by Thailand's Department of Marine and Coastal Resources in 2016, aims to counteract the devastating impact of mass bleaching events on coral reefs.


Over 4,000 coral colonies have been restored around Mun Nai Island since the project's inception, mitigating the effects of coral degradation caused by rising water temperatures.


With the looming threat of a fourth mass coral bleaching event, such conservation efforts play a crucial role in safeguarding marine biodiversity and ecosystem health.
