The University of Michigan has agreed to pay $490 million to more than 1,000 people who said that a team doctor had sexually abused them, the New York Times reported.

The agreement, among the largest ever by an American university to settle allegations of sexual abuse, was reached this week and made public on Wednesday morning, Jan. 19.
If the deal materializes, it would be a sweet victory not only for the victims but also for the whistleblower, a former student who wrote to Michigan’s athletic director and reported misconduct that dated to the 1970s.
