Trump Announces $8 Billion in Aid for Farmers Facing High Diesel Costs

President Donald Trump announced an $8 billion aid package on Monday to help US farmers offset fuel costs during the harvest season.

The relief program, announced at a campaign rally in Kansas and on social media, comes as high energy costs put pressure on farmers and other businesses ahead of next month’s midterm elections, Ines Ferré reported for Yahoo Finance.
“Tonight, I am also pleased to announce that the Department of Agriculture will be launching a new ‘Harvest Fuel Relief Program,’ providing our farmers with 8 BILLION DOLLARS in support to offset Diesel costs during this Harvest Season,” Trump’s account posted on Truth Social.
The program will be administered by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), which announced that the funding would be made available through one-time payments to eligible farmers.
Trump credited Republican Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas with helping advance the initiative.
The announcement comes as farmers and transportation businesses face elevated fuel and other input costs.
Diesel prices were reported to be near a national average of $6.31 per gallon on Monday, following a sharp rise in fuel prices amid geopolitical tensions and constraints in global refining capacity.
