President Donald Trump has appointed Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Bill Pulte as acting director of national intelligence, replacing Tulsi Gabbard, according to reporting by

Trump announced the decision Tuesday on Truth Social, describing Pulte as having “deep experience managing the most sensitive matters in America,” citing his oversight of housing finance institutions Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Pulte currently leads the FHFA and serves as chair of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which oversee more than $10 trillion in mortgage-related assets, according to Trump.
Trump said Pulte will retain his housing finance roles while serving in the interim intelligence position. Gabbard reportedly stepped down last month following her husband’s cancer diagnosis.
The appointment raises questions about Pulte’s national security experience, as his background is primarily in housing finance rather than intelligence or defense.
If formally nominated, Pulte would require Senate confirmation to serve permanently.
