The United States has eased restrictions on the use of Anthropic PBC's powerful Mythos 5 artificial intelligence model for "trusted partners," according to a letter from the Commerce Department, Bloomberg News reported.

"Anthropic has worked with the U.S. government to address risks associated with the covered models," Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick wrote to the company's chief compute officer.
"These efforts have yielded significant progress."
The agreement eases a dispute between Anthropic and the U.S. government after officials barred the company from allowing foreign nationals access to the Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models over concerns that security safeguards could be bypassed.
The letter, dated June 26, does not indicate any changes to restrictions on the Fable 5 model.
"In just two weeks, we have worked diligently to ensure America remains the global leader in AI while safeguarding our security," Commerce Department spokesman Benno Kass said.
