President Joe Biden’s ambassador to Singapore is accused of threatening staff, wasting money, and poorly promoting US interests, according to an internal watchdog report released, Michelle Jamrisko, Peter Martin, and Philip Heijmans reported for Bloomberg News.

The State Department’s inspector general stated that embassy employees interviewed as part of its regular review process "described a fear, and even direct threats, of reprisal" from Ambassador Jonathan Kaplan. I Photo: U.S. Embassy in Singapore
The State Department’s inspector general stated that embassy employees interviewed as part of its regular review process "described a fear, and even direct threats, of reprisal" from Jonathan Kaplan, an entrepreneur and Democratic campaign donor who was confirmed as ambassador in late 2021.
What’s worse is that Kaplan has had poor relationships with Singaporean ministers and has miserably failed to improve US ties with the entire Singaporean government, a key member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The State Department is considering a thorough probe of Kaplan.
