A US House of Representatives committee said Thursday it had reached an agreement with Donald Trump and accounting firm Mazars USA on the handing over of the former president's financial records, Doina Chiacu reported for Reuters.

"After numerous court victories, I am pleased that my committee has now reached an agreement to obtain key financial documents that former President Trump fought for years to hide from Congress," said Representative Carolyn Maloney, chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform.
The agreement ends litigation by Trump, the panel's statement said.
In a related development, Mia Jancokiwz reported for Business Insider on Sept. 1, 2022 that Trump lawyer Alina Habba tried to defend her client by accusing the FBI of trying to portray Trump as careless with documents by taking photos of top secret and classified papers at Mar-a-Lago.
She also confirmed that Trump often welcomed guests to the office where the FBI found top secret files.
Her revelation further pushed Trump down a rabbit hole. In a post at the Twitter clone Truth Social, Trump earlier slammed the FBI for taking the documents that were neatly kept in a carton, again confirming that he had kept documents that should be under the control of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
Under the Presidential Records Act of 1976, Trump is barred from keeping White House documents.
