Senior US officials have revealed that said that the Pentagon has provided intelligence about Russian units all over Ukraine, allowing Kyiv to pinpoint the exact locations of Russian generals on the frontlines and set up artillery, sniper, and drone attacks, the New York Times reported.

Ukraine’s military has reportedly killed 12 Russian generals thus far, although US officials declined to confirm the numbers. Furious over the successful attacks, Russia claimed to have blasted heavy weaponry en route to Ukraine but this was denied by Washington and Kyiv, which received 81 M-777 artillery units along with 90,000 rounds of regular projectiles out of the 144,000 allotted for the howitzers.

The howitzers have already been deployed apparently hit Russian command posts, Kyiv Independent reported.

Moscow has urged Washington not to give heavy weapons to Kyiv but the plea has been ignored, the Associated Press (AP) reported. In a related development, AP said 600 people died when Russia bombarded a theater in Mariupol where 1,000 children and non-combatants sought shelter.

Russia also boycotted a UN Security Council meeting due to “Russophobic policies.”

Russia’s UN representative Dmitry Polyanskiy cited the alleged “warmongering” and “Russophobic policies” of EU leadership as the reason for the decision. Polyanskiy said that the EU was “actively trying to extinguish the fire of the Ukrainian crisis by pouring gasoline on it.”

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said on May 5 that Russian forces aimed at “critical infrastructure targets” in western Ukraine, including power facilities and transportation hubs.

Kirby emphasized that the US and other Western allies are still able to transport the necessary aid to Ukraine, CNN reported. The Netherlands may supply more heavy weapons to Ukraine.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said the country is evaluating whether it can join Germany, Belgium, and the UK to supply more heavy weapons to Ukraine. With this move, “the Netherlands will continue to support Ukraine’s fight to defend democracy and sovereignty, in the short and long term,” said Rutte.
