U.S. Trade Deficit With Japan Shrinks 10.9% In April 2022

The United States' trade deficit with Japan fell 10.9 percent in April from the previous month to $6.03 billion, according to the Commerce Department on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, Mainichi Shimbun reported.

As of the beginning of 2022, Japan had the fifth-largest trade deficit with the United States, trailing only China, Mexico, Vietnam, and Canada. While its deficit with China fell 10.1 percent to $30.57 billion, while that with Mexico declined 3.0 percent to $11.56 billion, the department added.
Globally, the US trade deficit in goods and services fell 19.1 percent to $87.08 billion. According to the department, US exports increased 3.5 percent to $252.62 billion, the highest level on record, while imports fell 3.4 percent to $339.70 billion.
Global trade figures are calculated using a balance-of-payments approach after seasonal adjustment, and country-by-country and regional breakdowns are based on unadjusted customs-cleared data.
