Pork exports from the United Kingdom to the Philippines totaled about £17 million in the first four months of 2022, a 14 percent increase over the same period previous year.

According to the most recent Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) data, the amount of pig meat sent to the country climbed 46 percent between January and April, totaling 13,812 tonnes.
After China, the Philippines is currently the UK's second largest non-EU pork export market. Last year, about £38 million of pork was sent to the Philippines, representing a fourfold increase over 2020.
Susan Stewart, Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) Export Manager, who recently returned from her first trade mission to Asia in two years, stated that the Philippines is proving to be a lucrative market for the UK pork business.
Just last month, nine exporters from the UK participated in a three-day trip to the Philippines organized by AHDB, which included a seminar on the current developments in the country as well as one-on-one meetings with major importers.
During the mission, they also attended a British meat reception and participated in market visits. The visit's goal was to expand exports to the market as well as reconnect and establish further networks across the archipelago.
"The visit to the Philippines was a huge success," Susan continued, "and gave our exporters the opportunity to learn about the changing trends in this growing market."
“We also facilitated a number of important face-to-face meetings with importers, who were very interested in red meat from the UK, providing a number of potential leads for our red meat exporters,” she concluded.
