Ukrainians have suffered immensely in Vladimir Putin's war on their country, but it appears the conflict is not going well for Russia's forces.

By some estimates, Russia has already lost as many troops in 28 days as it did during 10 years of war in Afghanistan during the 1980s, CBS News reported.

CBS News senior foreign correspondent Holly Williams and her team were in Ukraine a month ago when Russia launched its first strikes, but instead of the lightning invasion that Putin may have anticipated, she said his ground forces appear stalled.

Ukraine claims it has killed six Russian generals and on Thursday the country's military said it had destroyed at least one Russian Navy ship at the port of Berdyansk in southern Ukraine.

The Russian state media showed video of the military landing ship Orsk offloading armored vehicles, tanks and ammunition at Berdyansk in southern Ukraine two days ago but the Ukrainian said Wednesday, Mar. 23, that it had destroyed the ship.

An unverified video and photos posted online showed thick black smoke rising from the dockside. The video was also shown by the UK’s Mirror and Sun.

CBS News could not independently verify the video, but Ukraine's navy said it had blown up the Orsk in Berdyansk, an incident that serves as a warning to other ships seeking to unload troops and equipment at the port.

Earlier, Ukraine also claimed to have bombarded another warship, a corvette that Moscow deployed only a few years ago. Russia said earlier in the week that it had a total of 10 ships ready to dock along Ukraine's southern coast, carrying dozens of tanks, armored personnel carriers and other equipment to bolster its push to capture other vital port cities in the region.
