Ukraine's military intelligence (GUR) announced via the Telegram messaging app that Kyiv's forces had repossessed the drilling platforms, commonly known as the "Boiko Towers," through a "unique operation."

These platforms had been under Russian occupation since 2015 when Russia seized and annexed Crimea in 2014. They had been used by Moscow for military purposes since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

GUR stated in a video posted on Telegram, "For Ukraine, regaining control of the Boiko Towers was strategically crucial, and, consequently, Russia lost the ability to employ them for military purposes.

Russia's complete control over the Black Sea waters has been undermined, bringing Ukraine a significant step closer to reclaiming Crimea."
