Serhiy Chalyi reported for Reuters that Taran's mobile artillery unit, dubbed the Steppe Wolves, operates independently from Ukraine's military but remains committed to defending their homeland.
Despite being considered too old to be drafted, Taran and his comrades, mostly over 60 years old, are actively engaging Russian targets with truck-mounted rocket launchers.
Fueled by their passion for defending Ukraine, they operate on their own dime, relying on donations to fund their operations. With a spirit undeterred by their age, they repair faulty rounds and utilize captured enemy weapons to bolster their arsenal.
Their dedication has not gone unnoticed, as frontline troops provide them with targets and ammunition support, acknowledging the invaluable contribution of these senior fighters to the war effort.
Through their resilience and resourcefulness, Taran and his team exemplify the unwavering spirit of the Ukrainian people in the face of adversity.
