Ukrainian Marines Blast More Than 36 Russian Choppers In Herson

Ukrainian troops destroyed more than three dozen Russian helicopters in Kherson region following an overnight attack launched on Mar. 5, 2022, the Marine Command told the Ukrinform media outlet.

"At night, Ukrainian soldiers shelled the Chornobaivka airfield near Kherson. The occupiers decided to partially deploy their fleet there. Thirty enemy helicopters were initially destroyed, as well as manpower and equipment," the statement said.
In Mykolaiv, three enemy convoys were destroyed, the Ukrainian defenders seized trophies, loads of ammunition, wheeled equipment, and seven D-20 howitzers.
James Lee of the UK’s Daily Express also confirmed the attack, saying 30 Russian helicopters were blown to smithereens at Kherson airfield in an overnight "direct action raid."
Illia Ponomarkeno, a defense reporter with the Kyiv Independent, also reported the attack, which has been deemed a major victory for Ukrainian forces and deliver yet another blow to Putin.
Also sharing the news, a tweet by James Deegan, a Parachute Regiment veteran read: “Ukrainian Marines have conducted a direct action raid at Kherson Airfield reportedly destroying 30 Russian helicopters on the ground. Absolutely classic special operations role. Respect to the men who stepped into the night and conducted the attack.”
The Ukrainian army has claimed to have killed more than 11,000 Russian soldiers since Feb. 24. They also claimed to have destroyed 296 Russian tanks and 68 helicopters.
