The United Nations (UN) on Thursday suspended Russia from the Human Rights Council amid international condemnation over the brutal killing of civilians by Russian soldiers in Ukraine, Kyodo News reported.

During the special session of the General Assembly, a resolution demanding the suspension of Russia's membership in the human rights council was approved by a majority vote.
Prior to Russia, Libya was the only country suspended from the council over a crackdown by its forces against anti-government protesters in 2011.
