Unmanned U.S. Odysseus Spacecraft Successfully Lands On Moon

An unmanned, robotic lunar lander launched by a private U.S. company has successfully landed on the moon, as reported by Dylan Stableford and Caitlin Dickson for Yahoo News.

The Odysseus spacecraft, operated by Houston-based company Intuitive Machines, made its historic landing on the lunar surface after launching aboard a SpaceX rocket.


Despite a momentary loss of contact with NASA as it approached the moon, Odysseus was confirmed to have safely landed after approximately 15 minutes of anxious anticipation.

Stephen Altemus, CEO of Intuitive Machines, confirmed the successful landing, stating, "We can confirm, without a doubt, that our equipment is on the surface of the moon."


NASA Administrator Bill Nelson hailed the achievement, emphasizing the significance of the event for science, innovation, and American leadership. He declared, "Today for the first time in more than a half-century, the US has returned to the moon," marking a monumental milestone in space exploration.
