U.S. stocks edged lower to close the week as Wall Street ended a relatively calm week, with investors eyeing a key meeting between U.S. and Chinese officials set for the weekend.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 202 points, or 0.5%, and the Nasdaq composite declined 0.3%.

The S&P 500 slipped 0.3% in afternoon trading and is poised for a weekly decline of 0.7%, Associated Press reporter Stan Choe wrote.

This could be the first week in seven where the index sees a move of less than 1.5%, after recent volatility tied to President Donald Trump’s tariff threats and hopes of potential relief.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 202 points, or 0.5%, and the Nasdaq composite declined 0.3%. All eyes are on Saturday’s meeting in Switzerland between high-level U.S. and Chinese officials—the first such talks since Trump escalated his trade war.

Markets are closed over the weekend, but investors and economists fear that a failure to resolve tariff disputes could trigger a recession, Jiang Junzhe and Matt Ott also reported for AP.
