Starting January 1, 2024, period underwear in the UK will no longer be subject to value-added tax (VAT), potentially leading to a decrease in prices.

Lucy Hooker reported for BBC News that the removal of VAT should make period pants, considered a more environmentally friendly alternative to tampons and sanitary towels, up to £2 cheaper per pair.
The move followed a campaign supported by retailers and charities, urging the government to exempt period pants from VAT.
Other period products, such as tampons and pads, had been exempt from VAT since 2021.
