German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron exchanged views on European Union-China relations with China's President Xi Jinping in a video conference on Monday, Merkel's office said.

"They also discussed international trade, climate protection and biodiversity," her office added in a statement.
It is well known that China has also been miffed on sanctions slapped against cotton from Xinjiang, as well as restrictions on Chinese technology companies that have also had reduced access to advanced microchips that cannot be produced in China.
"The conversation also revolved around cooperation in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, global vaccine supply, and international and regional issues," Paul Carrel reported for Reuters in Berlin.
In Beijing, state broadcaster CCTV confirmed that President Xi Jinping held a video conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday. The details of the meeting were not given in CCTV's statement, Colin Qian and Ryan Woo reported for Reuters.
