The United States, Britain, the European Union (EU), and Canada have engaged in political manipulation to destabilize China, a spokesman for the regional government of Xinjiang said.

Xu Guixiang made the remarks during a press briefing while rejecting accusations of genocide being committed in the western Chinese region and the sanctions announced by the western governments over human rights abuses in Xinjiang, Cate Cadell, and Se Young Lee reported for Reuters.
The deputy head of Xinjiang’s publicity department, Xu parroted the line of the central government, which maintains that China is lily-white as far as the treatment of the Turkic-speaking Uyghurs is concerned, and described the detention of thousands of adult Uyghurs in “education camps” as a comprehensive effort to stamp out extremism, with the internees being schooled in Mandarin and trained in vocational courses.
Xinjiang produces about 20% of the world’s cotton, which is now subject to sanctions, and goods produced in the province for exports have been barred from entering the US, Canada, Britain, and the 27 EU member-states. China has been accused of genocide by oppressing the Uyghurs, forcing people to be sterilized to reduce population growth and preventing the propagation of Islam.
