New voter registration surged to record levels in the first 48 hours after President Joe Biden ended his presidential campaign.

The increase surpasses the surge seen when Taylor Swift urged her fans to register on Instagram.

The Vote.org website reported that 38,500 young people signed up, marking a 700% spike, according to Politico Playbook.

This increase surpasses the surge seen when Taylor Swift urged her fans to register on Instagram, Playbook noted. Most of the new registrations came from voters aged 34 and younger.

Vote.org, the largest get-out-the-vote technology platform in the nation, aims to register 8 million voters before November's election and has already registered 500,000 this cycle, including a record number of 18-year-old new voters, as reported by Travis Gettys for Raw Story.

A new poll conducted by YouGov for CBS News revealed that nearly 80% of Democratic voters favor the 59-year-old Kamala Harris taking over the party's nomination from the 81-year-old Biden, with only 21% preferring someone else.

The poll also found that 45% of Democratic voters felt more optimistic about the party's chances of defeating Donald Trump in November with Harris as the nominee instead of Biden.
