10-Year-Old Girl From Japan Becomes Youngest To Win Int'l Violin Prize

Himari Yoshimura, 10, has won the grand prize at the 15th International Competition for Young Violinists in Honor of Karol Lipinski and Henryk Wieniawski held in Lublin, eastern Poland.

The young girl, a fourth-grader at Keio Yochisha Elementary School, also became the youngest to ever win an international violin competition.
Yuka Matsubara of Mainichi Japan reported the grand prize is an even greater honor than first place at the competition, which is held once every three years.
One former participant is Vadim Repin, one of the greatest violinists of this generation.
