Around 700,000 people in the Argentinian capital and its suburbs were without electricity on Tuesday, Jan. 11. According to media reports, the reason for the blackout was a fire on a power line outside Buenos Aires.

Earlier, the grid operators had reported peak electricity demand as many people had switched on their air conditioners.

Around 39 degrees Celsius was measured in Buenos Aires at noon (1500 GMT or 11 p.m. in Manila.) The heatwave with temperatures of over 35 degrees is expected to last until Sunday.
