The MAALSADA-Farmer Irrigators Service Cooperative has expressed appreciation to the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) for linking their organization as food supplier to the biggest government hospital in Eastern Visayas region.

MAALSADA-FISCO, which is based in Alangalang town, would now be supplying 150 cavans of milled rice, every month and 150 kilos of assorted vegetables daily to Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVRMC) in this city for the daily meal of its patients.

Aside from EVRMC, MAALSADA-FISCO will also supply milled rice and vegetables to Schistosomiasis Research Hospital in Palo, and the Department of Health-Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DOH-RTC) in Dulag.

Another agrarian reform beneficiaries organization (ARBO) in the province of Leyte, the Paglaum Farmers Association (PFA), based in this city, also benefited from the marketing contract facilitated by the DAR under the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) program of the government.

PFA is now the supplier of vegetables, livestock, and poultry products of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for both the male and female dormitories of its Tacloban City Jail.

MAALSADA-FISCO and PFA are just two of the 14 ARBOs from different parts of Eastern Visayas which had sealed marketing contracts with 16 institutional buyers that were consummated by the DAR and concerned agencies in the virtual ceremonies held this August 2020.

Aside from the signing of marketing contracts, regional heads of DAR and the Departments of Agriculture (DA), Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Health (DOH), and the Interior and Local Government (DILG), as well as the BJMP also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support and extend assistance to farmers’ groups in the marketing of their products in the region.

“This is so far the biggest MOU and marketing contract signing implemented under the EPAHP based on the number of partners who joined during the event,” said Cabinet Secretary and Chairperson of Task Force on Zero Hunger on EPAHP Karlo Alexei Nograles.

Nograles said the marketing contract of this nature involving farmers' group was the biggest thus far. The same contract had been forged with other farmers' group in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Southern Tagalog, Bicol, Western Mindanao, Davao, CARAGA, and the Cordillera Administrative Regions.
