Beijing’s Russia Expert Says Putin Sure To Lose In Ukraine

University of Peking’s Russia expert, Prof. Feng Yujun, argues that Russia is sure to lose the war in Ukraine.

He made this grim prediction in an op-ed for The Economist, just as China welcomed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for talks on “revitalized” ties with China.

Feng said that far from being tight, relations between China and Russia have cooled off owing to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine and its intransigence in negotiating a truce and eventually the end of hostilities.

Inevitably, China and Russia will jockey for position as the only powers capable of checking the US. Feng’s position may reflect the dominant view of Chinese leaders.

Feng theorized that four factors make Putin’s loss in Ukraine inevitable. Reporting for Newsweek, Micah McCartney said these factors are: First, the level of resistance and national unity shown by Ukrainians, which has until now been extraordinary.

Second, the broad international support for Kyiv; third, the "nature of modern warfare," which combines "industrial might and command, control, communications, and intelligence systems."

Lastly, the lack of accurate intelligence among Kremlin decision-makers at the highest levels, preventing them from fixing mistakes.
