Despite battling cancer for eight years and undergoing chemotherapy treatment just last week, Saephan's luck turned as he secured the life-changing windfall, as reported by Claire Rush and Gene Johnson for the Associated Press (AP).

At a news conference hosted by the Oregon Lottery on Monday, Saephan shared that he and his 37-year-old wife, Duanpen, decided to split half of the winnings between themselves, with the remaining portion bestowed upon their friend, Laiza Chao, aged 55, hailing from the Portland suburb of Milwaukie.

Chao, who contributed $100 to purchase a batch of tickets alongside them, will equally benefit from the jackpot. Opting for a lump sum payment, Saephan and his companions will receive $422 million after taxes.

Expressing his gratitude, Saephan expressed his relief at being able to provide for his family and address his health concerns, emphasizing his intent to secure quality medical care.

Reflecting on his cancer diagnosis, he pondered over the newfound wealth, questioning, “How am I going to have time to spend all of this money? How long will I live?”

The serendipitous win unfolded after Chao, on her way to work, received a call from Saephan bearing the incredible news. “You don’t have to go anymore,” Saephan exclaimed, marking the beginning of a life-altering journey for the fortunate trio.
