The certification, granted by Barone International, recognizes the building's high efficiency and environmentally friendly design.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is a globally recognized rating system for green buildings, focusing on environmental, social, and governance benefits.
D&L's Central Hub earned a total of 60 points for its features addressing carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health, and indoor environmental quality.
Alvin Lao, President and CEO of D&L, emphasized sustainability as a core principle in designing the Batangas plant.
The plant is dedicated to manufacturing higher-value, sustainable products using coconut oil. Key features of the plant include sustainability-designed buildings, renewable fuel sources, a centralized chilled water system, and water recycling programs.
The Central Hub's architectural design prioritizes natural light influx, creating bright and airy spaces while maintaining energy efficiency.
The building surpasses ASHRAE 90.1-2010 standards by being 20% more efficient than non-green buildings. Additionally, its water recycling system achieves significant water savings equivalent to one Olympic-sized pool annually.
D&L's commitment to creating a healthy indoor environment is evident in the building's design, which includes indoor air quality management and the use of low-emitting materials.
Lao emphasized the plant's role in offering sustainable products manufactured by a Filipino-owned, world-class facility.
