"We are very close to signing the agreement for the gigafactory in Termoli where Stellantis will make batteries. It's a matter of a few days," Giorgetti told daily Corriere della Sera in an interview, without giving any details Agnieszka Flak reported for Reuters.
Stellantis has been firming up its production of electric vehicles (EV) and looking for stable supplies of lithium and other minerals needed for the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries.
US car companies have also been shopping around for companies that could produce microchips required by EV vehicles and avoid supply chain issues faced by Taiwan and South Korea, which are the world’s top chip producers.
