They cited the significant state subsidies provided by China for these vehicles, which were distorting the market within the European Union (EU), as per a report covered by Foo Yun Chee for Reuters.
Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the importance of electric vehicles in achieving the EU's ambitious environmental objectives.
"So today, I am pleased to announce that the Commission is launching an anti-subsidy investigation into electric vehicles originating from China. Europe remains committed to fair competition, not a race to the bottom," she stated during her annual State of the Union address at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
